Hannaford Data Breach

Dear Valued Customer:

Machias Savings Bank has recently been notified by Visa that an illegal data intrusion into the Hannaford Bros computer network may have resulted in the theft of some of our customers’ debit card numbers. The intrusion affected Hannaford stores in the Northeast, Sweetbay stores in Florida and certain independently-owned retail locations in the Northeast that carry Hannaford products.

At Machias Savings Bank we take security breaches very seriously.  Our Security team has been working diligently with Visa and our card processor to identify account numbers that were potentially involved in this breach.  We have 24 hour, 7 day a week fraud monitoring system in place and we monitor every transaction for fraudulent activity.  It is important to remember that you are protected by Visa's Zero Liability protection policy should you have fraud on your account.

At this time, we have no information that any of our cards have been compromised, stolen or fraudulently used.  We have received no complaints from our fraud monitoring systems or from any customers about potential fraud. 

Cardholders are not responsible for fraudulent activity on their accounts. As always, we encourage you to monitor your account closely and report any unauthorized transactions to us immediately.  If you see any signs that your card may have been fraudulently used or if you have any questions, please call our Customer Service team at 1-866-416-9302 or 255-9302.

Finally, the announcement of the card breach by Hannaford Bros may spur additional attempts to steal personal information. Machias Savings Bank will never call or Email you asking for your pin, password, card number or personal information. If you are contacted by anyone asking for this type of information - no matter how official the caller or Email seems - do not share this information, report this attempt immediately to our Customer Service team.
